Kayleigh zooms into the Automotive IAAF briefing
Kayleigh’s brief on the latest IAAF Automotive Aftermarket news
The IAAF (Independent Automotive Aftermarket Federation) held another virtual briefing session today allowing members to keep up-to-date on automotive aftermarket developments. Kayleigh Bradley, Senior Recruiter at Glen Callum Associates, zoomed into the IAAF event and provided us with her brief on the latest automotive aftermarket news……..
DVSA – Managing recalls and Market Surveillance
The event hosted by IAAF’s Mike Smallbone and Wendy Williamson saw the DVSA headline, giving members of the automotive body the opportunity to learn about managing recalls and the effects of market surveillance. The DVSA’s Market Surveillance Unit (MSU) gather intelligence and research resulting in the investigation and testing of non-compliant automotive products. Vehicle manufacturers (VM’s) and the aftermarket sectors are both monitored. That is to say products from DPF filters, to headlights, to child car restraints are all scrutinised. Consequently the MSU will educate where possible, and prosecute if necessary, ensuring compliance of future products.
Overview of recent months
Wendy Williamson, IAAF chief executive spoke alongside Mike Smallbone and gave an overview of recent automotive aftermarket activity. Mostly centred around the coronavirus the summary included MOT extensions, the furlough scheme and the proposed scrappage scheme. Moreover Wendy then continued to talk about type approval and block exemption.
Cyber Security
Cyber Security and how this could be catastrophic for the aftermarket for parts manufacturers, diagnostic equipment manufacturers, and garages and workshops was also covered.
The worries for the aftermarket and considerations around cyber security are to follow in detail on a later article ……..….watch this space.
Glen Callum Associates are members of the IAAF and enjoy the opportunity to network with the members. The IAAF is the only trade association that lobbies on behalf of the independent automotive sector specifically on parts. The federation’s aim is to promote all aspects of the aftermarket and support every part of a member’s business, they also host the largest automotive aftermarket event of the year – the IAAF Conference & Awards dinner. The dinner unfortunately has been cancelled this year due to Covid-19 but a “super conference” will go ahead in its place for IAAF members on the 3rd December.
