Business Development – High performance specialist chemicals

Are you a Senior Technical Sales Manager or Technical Business Development Manager with experience of selling or specifying chemicals into industry?

We are looking to recruit a senior technical sales professional, experienced in bulk or packed speciality chemical sales to develop business and grow market share for a leading, UK chemicals supply specialist.

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals that have experience of selling oleochemicals, esters or surfactants across a wide variety of industry sectors. Specific experience of selling to cosmetics manufacturers, PVC or rubber production markets would be exceptionally interesting.

The challenge…

Our client is a privately owned, UK chemical distribution specialist and enjoys a leading reputation of supplying bulk and packed speciality chemicals into industry throughout the UK and Europe, supported with 1st class technical advice service. We are looking to secure a technical sales manager to develop their UK business and grow both their existing and new routes to market. We are particularly interested is speaking with potential candidates with experience of selling into cosmetics manufacturing, PVC or rubber production markets.

The role will include:

  • Working throughout the UK visiting existing customers and selling a range of bulk and packed speciality chemicals suitable for varying applications & industries.
  • Identifying and approaching new customers in both new and existing markets.
  • Identifying potential new suppliers of speciality chemicals that might complement our existing portfolio
  • Working with customers to formulate product specifications and applications to meet their needs.
  • Proactively arrange samples and associated quotations to pitch for new business.
  • Methodically and meticulously follow up quotations to gain feedback and close sales opportunities.
  • Successfully turn the quotation process into order generation and look for additional business opportunities.
  • Provide customers with technical support and guidance regarding product specification and application.
  • Manage key account activity building and deploying solid sales & marketing plans for each customer.
  • Work closely with the MD on the overall business plan for the UK; tracking progress, detailing major wins and focusing on continued business opportunities.
  • Be the pivotal and “go to” person within the business regarding all UK sales activity, customer initiatives and product specification / application quotes.
  • Track and monitor the UK business performance against budget milestones.
  • Work in tandem with inter-company departments including internal sales, purchasing & supply, pricing and finance.

We are looking for a highly passionate technical sales individual bringing an abundance of experience covering speciality chemicals and an ability to navigate chemical applications to increase sales into industry.

Experience in the following areas is highly desirable….

  • Selling or specifying chemicals such as oleochemicals, esters, surfactants and fatty acids / alcohols.
  • Chemical manufacturing processes and an understanding of chemical applications.
  • Developing customers and selling chemicals in a face to face commercial environment.
  • Growing key accounts within the bulk/ speciality chemicals market.
  • Complex product applications and pricing strategies based on commitment and volume.
  • Positively influencing senior buyers, decision makers and business heads.
  • Providing technical support and advice to customers technical departments on product and applications.
  • Deploying sales and marketing development plans to win business from competitors.
  • Monitoring competitor activity to ensure the business remains competitive and conducive to the market.
  • Influencing internal business functions including sales support, technical, marketing and pricing personnel along with supply base and procurement.
  • Assessing, utilising and manipulating large amounts of data & information.
  • Financial management, robust with an ability to maximise margin and profit opportunities through intelligent selling.
