This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety Officer to join a celebrated global developer and manufacturer of Optical/Photonic components.

Ideally based: Chester, Denbigh, Wrexham, Ellesmere Port

The Challenge:

An opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Officer to join an established team.

The successful candidate will be able to provide a safe workplace environment, without risk to health, and ensure all statutory and regulatory requirements are updated, monitored, measured and achieved.

You will take an active part in working across functional teams to coordinate, support and advise the organisation on all aspects of health and safety. You will establish, manage and monitor standards, processes, communications, training and systems, and ensure that these are all adhered to.

The main duties with this role of Health and Safety Officer will include:

  • Investigate and record incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health
  • Prepare and carry out internal and external audits for existing and new accreditations, including ISO9001:2015
  • Carry out risk assessments (COSHH, PUWER, DSEAR etc.) and site inspections, identifying potential hazards and recommending mitigating actions
  • Review/update health and safety policies and procedures
  • Implement and update safe operational practices
  • Make presentations to all stakeholders
  • Arrange relevant training for employees
  • Forge and maintain relationships with all stakeholders
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and communicate changes to the organisation
  • Analyse data and provide regular statistics/reports to Snr. Management/Directors to aid decision making
  • Participate in meetings, when required to report on health and safety matters to all stakeholder.

The Candidate:

For this role of Health and Safety Officer, it is essential that all candidates have the following:

  • Experience of working in a health and safety role
  • NEBOSH qualification
  • Ability to remain calm, but assertive under pressure
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office
  • A professional and confidential approach, along with strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment

An ideal Health and Safety Officer will desirably have:

  • Degree/HNC
  • Teaching/training experience
