Business Development Manager – UK

We are looking to recruit a top technical sales professional / business development manager to grow sales for 4 key brands of high performance chemicals, specifically developed and manufactured to meet the everchanging needs of automotive, marine & industrial cleaning, surface preparation and surface finishing applications.

Ideal location – West Midlands/South Midlands – M6, M5, M1 Corridor

Our client is established for +30 years and are an innovator and leading manufacturer of specialist high performance chemicals. Their continued commercial success has been in developing, nurturing and supporting a network of UK and international distributors.

The Candidate:

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing sales via distributors and possess an exceptional ability to get hands on with product and adopt a demonstrative approach towards introducing products to market, increasing sales and training distributor staff. In addition, locating and introducing new business via distributor accounts where geographically viable is also a pivotal requirement.

Qualities we would expect the candidate to hold as a minimum are:

  • Good technical knowledge of the automotive re-finish market and applications / products.
  • Technically capable, able to confidently demonstrate product & engage re-finish technicians /engineers.
  • Gravitas to present the commercial offering to senior stakeholders.
  • Clear and precise communication skills.
  • Well organised and well presented.
  • Solid commercial and sales skills.
  • Good negotiator, persuasive and able to influence.
  • Results orientated with a clear focus.
  • Flexible to travel extensively when required throughout the UK and also Europe.

The Role:

Growing business with distributor’s is key, therefore, selling and creating product pull through is vital to the success of this role along with appointing new distributors in key geographical locations.

  • Visit existing customers and prospect new customers throughout parts of the UK and Europe.
  • Create customer loyalty through contact visits, training and distributor end user field workouts.
  • Anticipate the customer’s needs / applications and introduce products to suit their needs.
  • Propose product profiles and range build.
  • Provide technical knowledge and demonstrative solutions to aid the sales & solutions process.
  • Be the technical support mechanism for all of your distributors.
  • Manage all commercial and sales activities within your distributor network.
  • Pro-actively appoint new distributors in areas of weak distribution / coverage.
  • Be the conduit for communication between the company and your distributors.

This role would ideally suit a candidate with the following skills/experience:

Technical field sales person, area sales manager, key account manager, field sales demonstrator, body shop or re-finish technician with great commercial flare, individual with a re-finish or body shop career history with skills of handling customers and commercial elements, vehicle detailing specialists with good commercial skills, van sales, automotive industry, garage workshop, automotive aftermarket, sales account development, vehicle parts, tools and equipment.
