Following a report by the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers) a rise in employment is predicted with a new high in vehicle production.
- The amount of cars the UK produces will reach over two million vehicles by 2020, beating the former high of the 1970s.
- More than 1.5 million cars were built in the UK in 2014 and acceleration in productivity and production volumes will see the UK in the top 3 of European car makers.
- Upto 9,500 jobs will be created at source by vehicle manufacturers, potentially generating an extra 28,000 at component supply companies.
“The prospect of further jobs growth, particularly in the supply chain, is extremely encouraging, while the UK’s consolidation as a global hub for premium production is testament to our prowess in design and precision engineering.” Mike Hawes, SMMT Chief Executive
